The GR 15: starting point for great adventures (right from the campsite!)

Are you an avid hiker or dreaming of a stage on one of Belgium's most beautiful long-distance trails? Then we have fantastic news! Camping L'Eau Vive is a stone's throw from the legendary GR 15, also known as the “Tour de la Semois”.

This great trail traverses some of the most breathtaking landscapes of the Belgian Ardennes and connects Martelange to the sources of the Semois river in Arlon.

The stages close to the campsite: from Martelange to the Semois spring

The section of the GR 15 that starts at our campsite is the 29.5 km stage “De Martelange aux sources de la Semois à Arlon”. Prepare for a journey full of historical trails and beautiful nature:

  • Tough start: the route starts in Martelange, at the traffic lights on the N4 (opposite the historic “Maison Rouge”). The first metres are immediately a “tough climb” (rude mise en jambes) up the hill, via Rue de l'Église.
  • Historic stop: already after 1.1 km you reach the Chapelle St-Nicolas. This chapel, built in the early 18th century and located at an altitude of 460 metres, is dedicated to the patron of travellers.
  • Old paths: Further on, the path follows a stretch of the historic “ancienne voie du tram” (old tramway), also called the “promenade des Romains”. This tramline connected Arlon and Martelange and was closed as early as 1952.
  • Liberty Road & heritage: Later in the stage you'll pass through Attert, where you'll follow the route along the Voie de la Liberté (Freedom Road). This path is marked by memorial stones (with a torch and the year 1944) commemorating the liberation by the Allies, in the wake of the US 3rd Army led by General Patton.
  • Magic endpoint: the stage ends at the sources of the famous river the Semois/Semoy In Arlon.
